Severe storm blows through Boundary County with
high winds, heavy rains |

Severe, high speed winds along with heavy rain
pounded the Northwest today, with wind gusts
measured as high as 119 mph in Western
Washington. Over 500,000 power company customers
were without power across the Northwest area of
the United States.
Parts of Interstate 90 west of Spokane were
closed due to weather conditions.
Locally, according to information from Northern
Lights, over 1,100 of their customers in
Boundary County are without power as of this
posting.
A rough breakdown of Northern Lights customers
without power in Boundary County is as follows:

Highway 95 Eastport area: 76 without power
•
Highway 95 Mt. Hall junction to Round Prairie:
165 without power
•
Meadow Creek area: 41
•
Highway 95 from Three Mile toward Mt. Hall: 165
•
Area west of Three Mile: 176
•
Kootenai Valley in the West Side / District 5
area: 54
•
Cow Creek area: 67
•
Naples and Elmira: 608
We do not yet have information on power outages
from City of Bonners Ferry power.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., Bonner County law
enforcement was reporting both lanes of Highway
95 closed near milepost 494 by a tree that had
blown down across the road.
Evening classes were cancelled at North Idaho
College earlier this evening due to danger from
high winds.
In other areas of the Inland Northwest,
individuals have died from falling trees. On
Spokane's South Hill, a tree fell on a woman,
killing her. Another person was killed after
crashing their car into a tree that had fallen
across a road east of Cheney, Washington. A
person is in critical condition after a tree
fell on their car in the Twin Lakes, Idaho area.
The roof was blown off Spokane's SpokAnimal
facility.
Schools are closed for Wednesday in some areas,
with late, delayed openings at other schools in
the region. A call to the Boundary County School
District emergency closure number at
approximately 10:30 p.m. this evening went
unanswered, implying that Boundary County
schools will likely be open tomorrow unless
conditions change.
