Commissioner Smith thanks community

Chairman
Boundary County Board of Commissioners

I take this opportunity to thank all those in this community who’ve supported me during all the elections in which I’ve been a Boundary County candidate, both as sheriff and, for 16 years, as county commissioner. I have been gratified to serve the great people of the best county in the world.

Many of you encouraged me to continue my latest campaign as a write-in candidate, but after giving it much thought I let the October 9 deadline pass without filing.

Throughout my tenure as an elected public servant, I have enjoyed considerable support across party lines, from Republicans, Democrats and Independents. I feel I still have that support, which wasn’t reflected in May because of the rules imposed.

It has been an honor and privilege to serve you as an elected official and to work alongside a great bunch of people who’ve dedicated themselves to public service, and I’m proud of all the accomplishments we made, working together for the good of Boundary County.

No one individual can take credit, as everything we do in county government is a team effort, from conceiving great ideas and solutions to carrying them through to completion, all the while keeping in the forefront the people and taxpayers we so gratefully serve.

While I’m leaving elected office, I am pursuing different options to remain of service to Boundary County and to continue working with and alongside the dedicated county employees who serve us so well. I can think of no greater privilege than to continue being of service to the people who call this piece of Heaven home, and no better way to thank my many friends and neighbors for supporting me through all these years.
