Storm watch upgraded

December 18, 2012
A winter storm watch issued early this morning has been upgraded to a storm warning by the National Weather Service, in effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday ton 4 p.m. Thursday. A warning means that the threat of severe weather is imminent or occurring, not just a possibility.

The warning calls for eight to 14 inches of snow in the valleys and nearly 20 inches at higher elevations, with southeast winds of five to 15 miles an hour added to the mix. Gusts of up to 40 miles per hour are expected at higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, the coming winter storm has the potential to make travel hazardous or impossible.
