Bonners Ferry Police Chief Bob Boone reports that pipe bomb suspect Allen Stafford, also known as Avery, appeared in front of Judge Justin Julian on Friday and waived his preliminary hearing.

Stafford, 20, was taken into custody March 9 for allegedly setting and detonating an explosion that rocked Bonners Ferry's Northside that morning and sent two people to the hospital.

Boundary County Prosecutor Jack Douglas stipulated he would not seek federal charges. Additionally, a plea agreement stipulates that the sentences for any other crimes Stafford may be charged with will run concurrent to the charges he is already facing; aggravated felony assault and possession and destruction of an explosive device.

In addition to the pipe bombing case, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and the Bonners Ferry Police Department are actively investigating a score of burglary cases Stafford may have been involved in. Many of these cases involve thefts from automobiles and the thefts of firearms.

Stafford remains in custody in the Boundary County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail. His next court date is an arraignment hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 10, in District Court.
