In a report just released, details on crime statistics for Boundary County, Bonners Ferry, and for Idaho statewide are listed.

The Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification released their annual "Crime In Idaho" report for 2015 this past Friday, July 1. The report is a synopsis of statewide crime statistics gathered from law enforcement agencies across Idaho and includes such things as the Statewide Crime Profile, Crimes against Persons, Property, Society, the Arrest Profile, Hate Crime in Idaho, Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted, crimes categorized by jurisdiction and many other statistics.

Included as part of the report are 2015 crime statistics for Bonners Ferry and for Boundary County, Idaho.  Those local statistics will be given in just a moment, after defining how crimes are classified in the report.

How Crimes Are Classified in the Report
In the report, crimes are classified in groups, and the three groups Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, and Crimes Against Society are together classified as Group "A" Offenses.

Those are Group "A" Offenses.  Group "B" Offenses include other crimes, such as DUI, writing bad checks, trespassing, disorderly conduct, and others.

Bonners Ferry and Boundary County Crime Statistics from the Report

Bonners Ferry Police Department
In the City of Bonners Ferry, total Group "A" Offenses numbered 139 in 2015, down from 198 in 2014, which is a 30% decrease.  The 2015 total is also down from the previous four-year average of 158 Group "A" Offenses annually.

In statistics from the Bonners Ferry Police Department, drug-related crimes led the way in Group "A" Offenses.  The BFPD had 39 Drug/Narcotic offenses reported, and 32 Drug Equipment Offenses reported.  Combined, these led to the arrests of 42 adults and 2 juveniles.

Next up for BFPD in 2015 was larceny, with 35 reported cases, with 22 adult arrests and 2 juveniles arrested.

There were 15 reported cases of Simple Assault, with 15 adults arrested.

Burglary and Vandalism each had 8 reported cases in Bonners Ferry, each with 1 adult arrest.

Other Group "A" crimes in Bonners Ferry City in 2015 included Motor Vehicle Theft, and Counterfeiting / Forgery.

Group "B" arrests listed for Bonners Ferry in 2015 included 7 adults arrested for DUI, and 52 arrests listed on the report as "other."

Boundary County Sheriff
Group "A" Offenses reported by the Boundary County Sheriff's Office numbered 171, which was a 20% increase over 2014's number of 142.  The 171 cases from 2015 was down somewhat from the average over the previous four years of 180.

Group "A" Offenses reported from the Boundary County Sheriff's Office were led by 47 reported burglaries, with 2 arrests for that crime.

This was followed by 35 larcenies.

There were 28 Drug / Narcotics and Drug Equipment crimes reported through the Boundary County Sheriff's Office, with 15 adults arrested.

There were 27 cases of Vandalism.  There were 16 Simple Assaults leading to five adults and one juvenile being arrested.

Two murders were reported in Boundary County in 2015, and two individuals were arrested for murder.

Other Group "A" Offenses reported to the Boundary County Sheriff's Office in 2015 were 6 cases of Motor Vehicle Theft (with one arrest), 3 reported rapes (with one arrest), 3 reported cases of Statutory Rape (with one arrest), 2 cases of Aggravated Assault (with one arrest), and 2 cases of Fraud (with 0 arrests).

For Group "B" Offenses, the Boundary County Sheriff's Office had 16 arrests for DUI, and 4 arrests for other Liquor Law violations and Drunkeness.   There was one "Other" Group "B" Offense.

Idaho Statewide Crime Facts and Statistics
Looking from an Idaho statewide perspective, the report lists highlights in its "Facts at a Glance" page, including changes in those categories in 2015 compared to 2014 statistics:

In Idaho statewide, Group A Offenses (Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property, and Crimes Against Society), have increased 2.7% from 2014.

The crime rate in Idaho is 4,711.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. This statistic is based on Group "A" Offenses and has increased 1.3% from 2014.

Idaho's number of Violent Crimes has increased 6.3% from 2014 with 3,379 violent crime offenses reported to law enforcement.

Crimes Against Persons for Idaho statewide were up 1.4% with 17,239 reported crimes.  The report states that 20.7% of victims of violent crimes were under 18 years of age and 53.8% were committed against females. The most frequent month of crime occurrence was August and the least frequent was December.

In 2015, there was one law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in Idaho. Additionally, the number of assaults against law enforcement officers was up 15%
from 2014, with a total of 329 assaults on officers.

Hate Crimes in Idaho were down 15.4% from 2014 with 22 reported hate crimes.

Idaho statewide Crimes Against Society increased by 9.8% from last year with 19,880 crimes reported. Drug/Narcotic Violations and Drug Equipment Violations accounted for 93.7% of Crimes Against Society.

Crimes Against Property increased by 0.3% in Idaho, with 43,615 reported crimes.

Idaho's Nationwide Ranking for Violent Crime
Idaho comes in at #45 in the ranking of all the states for Violent Crime Rate (ranking from highest to lowest) using the most recently available 2014 statistics.  Idaho's Violent Crime Rate of 212.2 violent crimes per 100,000 people compares with the District of Columbia's #1 worst ranking of 1,244.4 violent crimes per 100,000 people (almost double second place Alaska), and Vermont's lowest-in-the-nation ranking at #51 with 99.3 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
