Sandpoint City Police releases further details
regarding shooting incident of this morning |

Sandpoint City Police have identified the
officers involved in this morning's shootings in
the southwest part of the city, at Ridley
Village Road. They have also identified the
deceased suspected shooter.
According to Sandpoint Police, the officers
responded to a request for service at a
residence at 950 Ridley Village Road in the
early hours of this morning. Within seconds of
their arriving and making contact, the suspect
began firing a weapon at the police officers.
They immediately took cover, the suspect
continued to fire. Both of the responding
officers were hit by gunfire. One or both
officers returned fire.
The wounded police officers are Michael Hutter,
who was wounded in the leg. Officer Hutter was
taken to Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint,
where he was treated and released later in the
day. He is a 30 year law enforcement veteran,
and had been employed in the past by the
Sandpoint department from 1990 to 1997,. He
later served as Chief of the police department
in Ponderay, had retired from there in 2016, and
had recently been rehired by the Sandpoint
Police Department.
The second officer injured is Eric Clark, who
was shot in the neck and left hand. Due to the
severity of his injuries, he was taken to
Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene, where he has
since had two surgeries. Officer Clark was hired
by Sandpoint Police in 2015.
The suspect is a Sandpoint resident, identified
by police as Brandon Kuhlman, who was found dead
at the scene of the incident. |
