Sheriff's Office: Dispose safely of meds
at Rx Takeback Day |

by our Boundary County Sheriff’s Office
Unused or expired prescription medications are a
public safety issue, leading to accidental
poisoning, overdose, and abuse. That is why
Boundary County Sheriff’s Office is
participating in the DEA National RX TAKEBACK
day.
On Saturday April 28th from 10am until 2 pm,
members of the Sheriff’s Office will be setup in
front of Super One with a place for people to
drop their expired or no longer used
prescriptions. It will be a very simple process,
no recording of what the medications are, or who
dropped them off, just drive up to the Sheriffs
canopy tent and drop your prescriptions in the
box.
Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as
street drugs when taken without a prescription
or a doctor’s supervision. The non-medical use
of prescription drugs ranks second only to
marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse
in America. The majority of teenagers abusing
prescription drugs get them from family and
friends- and the home medicine cabinet.
Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash
can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold.
Take-back programs are the best way to dispose
of old drugs. Remember if you don’t properly
dispose of the unused or expired prescription
drugs in your home, they might find a new one.
Any type of prescription and or over the counter
medications are acceptable for drop off.
Intra-venous solutions, injectibles, syringes,
or medical waste are NOT allowed. We suggest
that you remove any identifying information from
the prescription label by either removing the
label or utilizing a permanent marker to black
it out.
If you are not able to come by and drop your old
prescriptions off on Saturday April 28th, the
Sheriff’s Office has a RX dropbox container
inside the front of the Sheriff’s Office, where
you can drop them off anytime. We appreciate the
community support in helping get prescription
pills properly disposed of so that they are not
abused. |
