Marlan Eugene Entriken, 68, passed away at his
home near Bonners Ferry on February 18, 2013. Marlan was born on April 12, 1944, Sioux City, Iowa, to David Ralph and Violet Mae (Parr) Entriken. Many would agree that out of all the Entriken brothers and sisters (nine to be exact) Marlan was the most talkative and the most charming. His close family would often describe him as a “Chatty Cathy” and he wouldn’t argue. Perhaps the most remarkable trait that Marlan carried was that of which he could tell a story better than anyone. It was incredible how easily captured you became hearing about one man with so many journeys. He was able to boast of being a Washington State Trooper and saving lives by driving ambulance. Even his less regal employment made for a great story such as the times he drove bus, for Portland City Bus to the renowned Greyhound Bus Lines. His employment was not what he was known for most though. Marlan was known for his easy life, his reliability and his ability to carry on a conversation about politics until your ears hurt. The memory most beloved by his family is a memory to each their own. Everyone saw him in a different light but it was always light. His love for county music and riding his lawnmower in the summer sun (as much as he pretended to dislike it) are such things that keep him with us, not to mention his addiction to the television show, “Cops." It would be cliché to say he left a loving wife, five children and countless grandchildren because he did not. Death is not the end, it is change, and Marlan will always be here in whatever form we wish to see him through. Survivors include his wife Mary, three sons: Stacey, Preston, Craig; two daughters Yolanda and Terasa eleven grandchildren eleven great-grandchildren.
