January 19, 2015
The Bonners Ferry Boys' lost to league-leading Kellogg last Friday, 52-30. The game was tightly contested through the opening quarter, but Kellogg gradually pulled away from the Badgers. Bonners Ferry's Wyatt Nelson had 13 points for the Badgers, Caleb Blackmore scored 6, and Kaleb Stockton had 5.

On Saturday evening, the Badgers welcomed the Jaguars of Genesis Preparatory Academy to Bonners Ferry. Genesis Preparatory is a small private school with approximately 60 students in grades 9-12. They play their basketball in the Mountain Christian League, which includes 11 member schools, 8 of which field a basketball team.

Genesis Preparatory is currently undefeated at 7-0 in their league. In non-league competition, they are 3-1, having defeated Mullan, Kootenai, and the Post Falls JV squad. Their only loss prior to playing the Badgers was a 67-38 loss to Kellogg.

In the Bonners Ferry game Saturday (a game broadcast live by Boundary County Live), the Badgers jumped to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a driving layup by Caleb Blackmore, a three pointer from the left side by Kaleb Stockton, and an outside jumper for two by Wyatt Nelson. It was almost halfway through the first quarter before Genesis scored their first point on a free throw.

Those opening three baskets from the Badgers were all the scoring Bonners Ferry would get for the entire first quarter, and by the end of the quarter, Genesis had reset the game, scoring seven points of their own to make it a 7-7 tie.

As the second quarter began, the Jaguars put together a little lead of their own, making the score 10-7 as the Badgers went scoreless for approximately the first three minutes of the second period. Wyatt Nelson finally tied things up at 10 when he made a layup and sunk the foul shot that came with it. Caleb Blackmore scored two to put the Badgers in the lead once again, and from that point forward the Badgers held the lead for the remainder of the game, with no serious further runs or threats from the Jaguars.

The final score was 45-31 in favor of Bonners Ferry. Caleb Blackmore of Bonners Ferry led Badger scorers with 13 points, and Wyatt Nelson had 11. Pat O'Hara and Collin Stone each scored 6 points.

The Badger Boys next play the Libby Loggers in Libby, Montana, on Tuesday evening, January 20. Their next home game will be this Thursday, January 22, when they play the Coeur d'Alene High School JV team in Bonners Ferry. That game will be broadcast live on Boundary County Live.
