Badgers pound Wildcats 14-4 in five innings |
Baseball team making a habit of mercy rule's
five inning games |

After a sluggish first three innings, the
Badgers unleashed 13 runs on 10 hits in the 4th
and 5th innings to beat the Kellogg Wildcats
14-4 in an Intermountain League game. The win
puts the Badgers at 5-1 in league and 11-6
overall heading into the last weekend of regular
season.
The 4th inning began with pitcher Vince Bennett
leading off with a single to left center. Chris
Sabin hit a fielder’s choice to score Bennett
after he advanced on a steal and passed ball.
The next two batters, Shay Garcia and Nick
Sabin, both walked, and Caleb Gering scored
Garcia on a RBI double to center. Sabin later
scored on Brady Bateman’s unassisted put out at
first.
In the 5th inning, the Badgers accounted for 8
hits and 10 runs starting off with Steve
Anzalone’s leadoff triple to center. Anzalone
scored on a RBI single from Bennett. Chris Sabin
hit a single to left followed by a Shay Garcia
single to load the bases. Gering came up with
his 3rd hit of the game scoring Bennett.
After Kevin Gray got hit by a pitch to score
Chris Sabin, Bateman hit a 2 run double to right
field. Anzalone came up again in the inning and
this time hit a 2 run double to left field
scoring Gray and Bateman. Bennett came up again
and smashed a triple to right to score Anzalone.
Bennett finished the scoring when Chris Sabin
grounded out to short scoring Bennett. In all,
Anzalone and Bennett accounted for 2 hits and 2
RBI each in the inning.
Gering finished the game going 3 for 3 and 2
RBI, Bennett went 3 for 4, 3 runs and 3 RBI, and
Anzalone went 2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI and triple
and double. Bennett struck out 7 batters
allowing 6 hits in the game.
