Boulder Creek Road, closed over two years
following flood damage, now open again |
September 13, 2018 |
Boundary County's Boulder Creek Road and bridge
appear now to be open. A recent visit to the
previously damaged area near where the road
crosses Boulder Creek showed barriers that had
previously closed the road have been removed,
and the bridge across Boulder Creek to be in
place and open.

Back in late December 2015, rains falling upon
the high mountain winter ice and snow led to
flooding conditions, with flood damage to
Boundary County's Boulder Creek Road and to
Lightning Creek Road in Bonner County. The
Forest Service closed both roads pending repairs
being made.
Damages to the roads included loss of four large
concrete box culverts, four segments of road
washouts, and damages / destruction to multiple
bridges on the roads.
The bidding process for repairs to the roads was
completed in April 2018, about 2 1/2 years after
the roads were closed. The contract for repair
of the roads was awarded to Noble Excavating,
Inc., of Libby, Montana, for their bid amount of
$1,737,710. The contract included repairs to ten
repair sites located along Bonner County's
Lightning Creek Road and Boulder Creek Road in
Boundary County.
With the road now open, the popular recreation
area along Boulder Creek, including the Boulder
City ghost town site, is now accessible to the
public.
