Gary
Leonard (I): (Note: as an Independent candidate,
Leonard's name will not appear on the primary ballot in
May)
My name is Gary Leonard.
I am running for Boundary County Sheriff because the
incumbent has repeatedly demonstrated poor leadership
skills.
After reviewing news articles dating back to 2000,
talking with local residents and members of various law
enforcement and emergency service agencies, it is clear
the current administration has not improved leadership
and administrative skills. Examples include proven poor
cooperation with other jurisdictions and agencies,
questionable employee status changes and shift
assignments, and the inability or unwillingness to
exercise the authority granted to local jurisdictions by
the Constitution of the United States of America. Deputy
morale is marginal at best, public perception is poor,
and despite crime reporting databases, crime has risen.
Ask yourself if crime is up or down in our county.
I have proven leadership skills learned and demonstrated
through 35 years of private industry with special focus
on management, finance, internal audit, and loss
prevention investigations, and over ten years of
volunteer and paid emergency services experience [8
years as officer]. I have successfully reinstated the
Paradise Valley Fire Department as one of the finest in
the County in less than two years by doubling the
membership and enhancing public awareness and perception
through visibility and communication while managing the
budget to the point of nearly having the ability of cash
funding a new station on US-95.
Boundary County deserves the best Sheriff’s Department
in the state of Idaho. Coming from outside the area
within the last two years, I realize what a paradise we
have and want to ensure we keep it that way.
In addition, I will make two campaign promises at this
time. I believe in term limits and promise I will serve
no more than two terms as Sheriff. I promise do whatever
I can to ensure better inter-departmental and
inter-jurisdictional cooperation. |
