Local Rotary awards scholarships for 10th year

The Bonners Ferry Rotary Club announced the recipients of the 2012 scholarships and honoured them at a dessert reception last Thursday at the Kootenai Inn.

Eight 2012 graduates of Bonners Ferry High School each received a scholarship of $500.

They are Brianna Carlson, Ben Horton, McKenzie Moore, Ayla Neumeyer, Josiah Owinyo, Katrina Svek, Kassandra Vinton, and Alexis Wages.

Local students attending colleges were also awarded $500 scholarships. They include Jenna Fox, who plans to attend The Masters College, Ben Heart, who attends the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Anya Krmpotich, who attends Whitworth College and Sara Owinyo, who attends The Masters College.

The Don Bartling First Club President Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Alicia Hedrick, a student at Northwest Nazarene College.

The local Rotary Club, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this week, has been awarding scholarships ever since its first year, according to Norman Braatz, chairperson of the Foundation Committee, which oversees the scholarship program for the club.

Scholarships are also offered to high school students who take courses at North Idaho College.
