Meet the second five DYW participants |

Twenty of Bonners Ferry’s most outstanding
junior girls are taking part in this year's
Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women
Scholarship Program April 29 at the Becker
Auditorium, and in each of the next three weeks, we'll
introduce you to five more of the young women now
preparing for “A Night at the Oscars.”

Victoria Smith – Participant #6 |
Victoria Smith, sponsored by Idaho Women in
Timber, is the daughter of Travis and Julie
Smith.
She has one sister, Katelyn, and three brothers,
Thomas, TJ, and Kyle.
Victoria plans on attending the Boise State
University to become an OB/GYN Nurse. In her
spare time, Victoria enjoys snowboarding,
hiking, camping, photography, participating in
FFA, and swimming.
A modern personality that interests Victoria is
Amberley Snyder, while a historical figure that
interests her is Rosa Parks. For her talent,
Victoria will be performing a comedic skit about
being the “middle child.”
When asked what makes Victoria least proud of
her generation she states, “I am least proud of
my generation’s lack of respect for authority
and poor work ethic.”

Haley Wenk – Participant #7 |
Haley Wenk, the daughter of David and Donielle
Wenk, is sponsored by Bonners Ferry Eagles
Aeries #3522.
She has two sisters, Rachel and Miranda, and one
brother, Ryan. Haley plans to attend University
of Montana and pursue a career as a mortician.
When Haley is not dancing on the BFHS Dance
Team, competing in track, or participating in
Foreign Language Society and National Honor
Society, she also enjoys hiking and fishing,
camping, and woodworking.
Haley’s favorite musical performer is The
Lumineers, and her favorite play is Hamilton.
For her talent, Haley will be performing a
humorous skit titled, “Lime Jello.”
When asked what makes her most proud of her
generation, Hayley states, “I’m most proud of
how we have turned away from drugs and alcohol
and more to personal health and well-being.”

Hannah Sims – Participant #8 |
Hannah Sims is sponsored by PEO. She is the
daughter of David and Stephanie Sims.
She has on sister, Isabella. After high school,
Hannah is unsure where she will attend college,
but intends to pursue a degree in a math or
science field.
Hannah finds historical figures Katherine
Johnson and Rosalind Franklin interesting, as
well as modern personality Simone Biles.
Hannah keeps busy by participating in
Cheerleading, Student Council, Leadership,
ballet, and piano. In her free time, Hannah
enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, and swimming.
For her talent, Hannah will be performing a
piano solo.
When asked what makes her least proud of her
generation, Hannah states, “I am least proud of
our overuse of texting and social media. Some
conversations need to happen face to face, no
matter how uncomfortable that may seem.”

Alayna Youngwirth – Participant #9 |
Alayna Youngwirth is sponsored by Girl Scout
Cadette Troup #3801.
She is the daughter of John and Deborah
Youngwirth. She has one brother, Michael. After
graduation, Alayna plans to attend attended
University of Idaho and study pre-law,
eventually going on to law school at the
University of Texas.
Alayna is intrigued by modern personalities
Melissa McCarthy and Lauren Riihimaki, and finds
historical figure Nelson Mandela interesting.
Extracurricular activities that keep Alayna
active include Golf, Volleyball, and Girl
Scouts. In her free time Alayna also enjoys
drawing, sleeping, spending time with friends,
exercising, and photography.
For her talent, Alayna will be performing a
comedic sketch
When asked what makes her most proud of her
generation, Alayna states, “My generation is
becoming more health conscious. Staying fit has
become a priority and less emphasis is placed on
appearance and more on how a person feels.”

Alexandra Hough – Participant #10 |
Alexandra “Allie” Hough, sponsored by Bonners
Ferry Rod Benders, is the granddaughter of Bill
and Linda Drayton.
Allie plans on attending college to study
education or mathematics with a minor in dance
with the hope of becoming a math teacher or a
dance instructor.
In her spare time, Allie enjoys dancing on the
BFHS Badgerettes Dance Team, taking jazz and
ballet dance classes, and playing trumpet in the
BFHS Band.
A modern personality that interests Allie is
Jennifer Lawrence, while a historical figure
that interests her is Albert Einstein. For her
talent, Allie will be performing a contemporary
dance to the song “Dangerously” by Charlie Puth.
When asked what makes Allie least proud of her
generation she states, “I am least proud of the
amount of time we spend on our phones and how
dependent some of us are on them.” |
