An old tried and true phone scam being tried again
October 14, 2017
There's is apparently an old scam rearing its ugly head once again as the unscrupulous are tired of working at all and are trying dusty old ways to separate you from your money. A local resident reported that the very sincere sounding caller tried to pull the scam on her, and she wants to warn others.

This scam comes to you via telephone, and if you don't answer, the caller will even leave a message. Answer now or call back later, you'll be told that a computer business has closed and that you have a refund coming.

That will perk up many an ear, but the next phrase, that you have to go to your computer while he guides you through what you need to do to claim your refund should slam them both shut and sound loud and strident alarms!

You will not be guided to a refund, you'll be giving him the access and information he needs to rob you blind!

If you get such a call, hang up. If you get such a message on your answering machine, don't return the call.

While you can report the number to police, it is likely fake and the caller could be on the other side of the world, so there is typically little if anything law enforcement can do, even if you do fall for the scam and lose money.
