Shirley Lorraine Wewee

September 14, 1925 ~ July 10, 2012
July 22, 2012
Shirley Lorraine Maddox Wewee went home to the Lord on July 10, 2012. She passed away at Boundary Community Hospital with her grand-daughter's Dyan and Jennifer by her side. Shirley requested no services, however, the family will have an informal gathering to honor her life.

Shirley was born in Duluth, Minnesota, September 14, 1925, to Francis Leo Maddox and Eva Mae Maddox. Shirley was the youngest of three children, the oldest, Audrey and her brother, Lewis. Shirley's mother passed away when she was four years old. Her father, Leo, re-married and Shirley and her brother and sister grew up with seven brothers and sisters.

Shirley lived in Indiana for a number of years where she met and married Dewitt Wewee in 1946. They had three children, David, Bill and Janet.

Dewitt worked as a highway engineer with the Federal Government and so she had the opportunity of living in many states throughout her life. Dewitt and Shirley divorced in 1998.

Shirley's heart was in Arizona where she lived in a retirement park. As her health declined, Shirley moved back to Bonners Ferry to be near her daughter Janet and three grand-daughters, Dyan, Jennifer and Debra.

Shirley's passions in life were her children and her grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed crafts including hand crafted crocheted dolls, hand stitched tissue box covers, and many Christmas decorations. When Shirley lived in Arizona, she enjoyed scheduling events and activities for residents in the park. Shirley loved the entertainment and the company of her friends.

Shirley is survived by her son, David Wewee, wife Diane and granddaughter Sarah, of Salt Lake City, Utah; her son D. William Wewee, wife Marietta and grandson's Dave and Marc of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter Janet Wewee of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and granddaughters Debra Henderson, husband Scott and great-grandchildren, Josh, Ashley, Amanda and Joey; granddaughter, Dyan Hitch and great granddaughters, Kendra and Kyia Chapman; Jennifer Brown, husband Rodney and great grandchildren, Rachel, Gary and John and her great, great grandchildren, Castyn and Bailey; all of Bonners Ferry.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt, parents and her siblings.

Shirley's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Boundary County Community Restorium for the professional care and attention they provided to Shirley while she resided there. And, a special thank you to granddaughters, Dyan and Jennifer for giving their grandmother extra love and attention.

Family and friends are invited to sign Shirley’s book at www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
