David Rex Baker

December 17, 1955 ~ September 15, 2012
September 18, 2012
David Rex Baker, 56, Found peace while surrounded by family and friends on Saturday September 15, 2012. A celebration of his life will be held at Grandview Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 22.

Dave was born in Bonners Ferry, son to Richard and Shirley Baker. Activities while growing up included 4-H, boxing, hunting and tormenting his mom and dad with his antics.

Dave had a special love of growing plants; everyone who truly knew him knew of his green thumb. He could grow anything and when he did, it was a masterpiece. He truly loved growing all different types of plants. While discovering how to reproduce the Martha Washington Geranium he found a new passion with the beautiful Streptocarpus, after months of meticulous research and care he cultured several strains of Streptocarpus, which studies have shown African Violets evolving from.

Streptocarpus is a beautiful plant that hosts numerous blossoms for months on end.

Dave also had a great love for children; he loved to hear their voices and laughter.

All children were special to him, his granddaughters being the most beloved thing he could have had. He truly treasured life and everything Mother Earth had to offer, he was not a man of material views, finding comfort within the simpler ways of life. He was always working on some project, whether it was the Russian rocket stove, or cordwood homes. His home would change on a regular basis with his research into simpler and more efficient ideas.

Dave was husband to Jeanette, father to Kalli and Adam, son of Richard and Shirley, grandfather to Shelby, Courtney and Jamie, brother to Rikki, Howard and Allen, best friends with Donny Plato, Mike and Larry Funkhouser, Kevin Vicarious, Dave Miller and so many other special people.

You will be missed greatly dad; in our thoughts and heart always!

Family and friends are invited to sign David’s book at www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
