Looking Back     Health Jewels    Stitch in Time

Striving to enjoy every day

April 9, 2014
Thank you for your article, "Satchwell honored for service to the city," but I would like to clarify the treatment I am undergoing for Multiple Myeloma and share information that may be of help to others in the community.

I received all my treatments in Spokane at CancerCare Northwest. I received my stem cell transplant in Spokane at Deaconess Hospital with Dr. Kaya as the transplant coordinator and Multiple Myeloma doctor in April 2011.

My transplant was not as much of a success as hoped for, with remission only lasting a couple of months. I continue to receive on-going chemotherapy treatments as there is no cure at this time for Multiple Myeloma.

Janet and I strive to enjoy every day and love being back to Bonners Ferry after our short time in Fairbanks, Alaska, where I was diagnosed.

Multiple Myeloma has touched Bonners Ferry in the past and will in the future. Help is available and a starting point is our support website, The North Idaho, Eastern Washington Multiple Myeloma Support Group website is: http://www.spokane.myeloma.org.

I would like to remind everyone that the Bonners Ferry Relay for Life is upcoming and people can get involved. To see more information they can go to: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=61937 or just Google Bonners Ferry Relay for Life.

People can also support Boundary County residents with transportation costs by donating to the cancer support group by contacting Panhandle Health. All these funds stay in our community.
