Pay heed to 'Go On' rate |

In the "things we can do better" part of School
Superintendent Pflueger's most recent
Superintendent Scoop report, he did not mention
the need for the district to improve the "Go On"
rate. Only 40-percent of graduating students at
Bonners Ferry High School will go to a tech
school, community college or four year school.
The military is not included in this figure.
There seems to be a lack of concern at the
school level and the community level in this
area. We have the lowest per capita income in
North Idaho. Boundary County is a poor, rural
area with few prospects and part of the greater
picture which is ... Idaho. Last in the nation
in average wages, per capita income and wage
increases, first in percentage of minimum wage
workers.
One way out of this economic cesspool is
education. It's been estimated that one can make
$1 million more in their lifetime with a college
degree v a high school diploma.
There needs to be more emphasis placed on the
"go on" rate in our local schools. This is the
job of the administration and the teachers.
Superintendent Pflueger, please pay attention to
this plea and bring Boundary County to a new
educational level. |
