On May 16, the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club had the
pleasure of awarding $13,000 to 14 local high
school and college students at a dessert
reception held in their honor at the Kootenai
River Inn. The students were joined by their
families for this celebration.
Andrakay (Hoisington) Pluid, Bonners Ferry's new
city attorney and assistant administrator,
discussed the importance of a solid education
and the availability of scholarships to fulfill
that quest. Andrakay was an earlier Rotary
scholarship recipient, who graduated from
college and law school, passed the bar on her
first try, and is now part of the BF Rotary
Club.
This years' recipients were Jesse Woods, Tyson
Boorman, Jacob Gray, Aramie Hoisington, Tessa
Payne, Evan Moe, Ben Horton, Taylor Dinning,
Brianna Carlson, Amy Maggi, Josh Miller, Makayla
Fairchild, Caroline Martin and Josiah Owinyo.
According to Norman Braatz, scholarship chairman
and master of ceremonies for the event, “the
local Rotary Club has been awarding scholarships
since it was founded in 2002. That year, the
club was able to award $600.”
Rotary is an organization of business and
professional persons united worldwide who
provide humanitarian service, encourage high
ethical standards in all vocations, and help
build goodwill and peace in the world.
