Kootenai expected to reach action stage

A forecast by the National Weather Service predicts that the Kootenai River will reach and slightly exceed flood action stage at about 11 a.m. Friday, April 11.

Currently, the Kootenai River elevation is at 55.51 feet at Bonners Ferry, and it is expected to rise to 57.58 feet on Friday. Flood action stage is 57-feet at Bonners Ferry; flood stage is 64 feet.

At action stage, some sloughing can occur and field seepage can begin. Those with property in flood prone areas along the river should start looking out for potential flood problems and take steps to minimize the threat.
