State testing going well at VVES

April 15, 2014
By Principal Gary Pfleuger
Valley View Elementary

The first week of Idaho State testing has gone very well. The fifth grade has taken the Science ISAT assessment. This week we begin the new SBAC assessment for math and language arts.

In my opinion, this new testing will lead to improved instructional practices.

Following this, we can get back to the regular business of education ... and in the Spring this is Project Based Learning! The Knowledge Fair is the grand finale for the third, fourth and fifth grade students.

The third grade students learn and share information about different countries, the fourth grade teaches us about the Great State of Idaho and the fifth grade peaks our curiosity!

This all comes together on May 22 in the Valley View gymnasium. Throughout the school day, projects will be set up. Students research a project of their choice and explain what they have learned to others — this is the basis of any strong educational program!

These projects and experiments will be available for public view throughout the day and into the evening. As we appreciate the student work, a free dinner will be served and the Dessert Auction will be held. Student entertainment is also provided.

All this and more on Thursday, May 22! The week long PTO Book Fair (buy one, get one free) will end on this day. If you are not there, you are missing out!

Final Notes:
On April 24 “Gear Up” will host an evening of “Food, Fitness & Fun” in the MS from 5 to 7 p.m. This is open to the community!

The Lions’ Club Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Boundary County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m.

Kindergarten Registration for Valley View will be held on Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children must be five years old by September 1. Please bring the birth certificate, immunization records and your child!
