This week's Idaho Distinguished Student
Award Winners include student from
Bonners Ferry High School
May 28, 2014
Every week the Idaho Dairy Council selects four students from around the state of Idaho to honor for their exceptional academic, athletic, and civic contributions and achievements.

This week's group of four Distinguished Student Award winners includes a senior from Bonners Ferry High School, Gabrielle Munson.

As a weekly winner of this award from the Idaho Dairy Council, Ms. Munson earned for her school $100 in scholarship funds, to be used at the discretion of the high school principal. For herself, she receives a recognition plaque and a Distinguished Student Award T-shirt.

But here is the big deal: Each school year, four winners are selected from all of the year's weekly winners, and those four winners each earn $5,000 in scholarships for their school. In addition, those four winning students will be featured on outdoor billboards throughout the state.

In selecting the award recipients, the Idaho Dairy Council looks for students, nominated by school staff, who are well-rounded seniors who excel as leaders in academics, athletics, volunteerism and extracurricular activities.

Ms. Munson certainly seems to fit those requirements. She has been active at school with cheerleading, and in the Future Farmers of America organization, where she has been president of the local Bonners Ferry chapter for the past two years. She has also served as a District FFA officer for the past two years.

She has participated on the BFHS track team in relays and pole vault.

She has been involved with 4-H through most of her life, and served as Boundary County Fair Queen in 2012. She is known to have staged with her sisters many family car washes, bake sales, and other activities to help fund her 4-H projects and related activities.

Gabrielle is the daughter of Tammie and Ken Goggia.

In addition to Gabrielle, other winners from around the state this week include Jenna Jarolimek of Filer, Josh Needles of Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, and Mersadies Fisher of Ririe.

Earlier this year, McKenzie MacDonald, another student at Bonners Ferry High School, also won a weekly Distinguished Student Award from the Idaho Dairy Council.
