Inmate in Boundary County jail dies
of suspected suicide
July 31, 2014
by Michael Meier, Boundary County Public Information Officer

On July 30 Mr. David Lee Erickson of Boundary County was arrested in
Bonners Ferry on an outstanding warrant from Bonner County. An additional
charge of resisting arrest was also added to his charges. Mr. Erickson, who reportedly appeared to law enforcement personnel to have no injuries, and was in apparent good health, was then confined to the Boundary County Jail for the night.

During the night Mr. Erickson, who was housed alone, died of an apparent suicide
by hanging in confinement. There is no suspected foul play, nor other subjects
involved.

All subjects in confinement are checked every 30 minutes within the Boundary
County Jail for their own safety as was Mr. Erickson. Upon discovery of Mr.
Erickson’s condition, CPR was immediately undertaken and he was transported to
the Boundary County Hospital where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful
and Mr. Erickson was pronounced deceased. Reports on toxicology and a full
autopsy are proceeding.

As all deaths while confined are investigated, Sheriff Greg Sprungl has requested
the Idaho State Police do the investigation, which is ongoing.
