Boundary Community Hospital offers 25% off mammography screening
October 2, 2014
by Marcia Morman

When statistics are one in eight—of anything—the odds are high. Picture a gathering of people—perhaps a basketball game, church service, school graduation, concert, community play, or standing in the check-out line at the grocery store—then for every eight women you spot, pick out one woman. That little exercise brings home why it is so important for women to have regular mammography screenings. It is a sad fact that one in eight women will have breast cancer in their lifetime.

Today, with the advancement of film to digital mammography, breast cancer can be detected earlier. Early detection is the key. Cancer is much easier to treat when it is discovered early.

Abnormalities of the breast tissue are captured in the digital picture. Then, after a potential problem is spotted, the radiologist can investigate further with an ultrasound or other forms of testing.

Boundary Community Hospital urges women to come for a mammogram screening annually. Now is the perfect time to schedule a screening and take advantage of a 25% savings during the entire month of October.

Join hundreds of people—men, women and children—throughout Boundary County in wearing the Breast Cancer Early Detection Day Pink T-Shirt on Thursday and Friday, October 23 and 24. For the past two years over 300 people wore the Pink T-Shirt. We encourage all residents to shop and mingle at the local stores those two days to witness all the community support.

Mayor Dave Anderson has declared Thursday, October 23, 2014 "Breast Cancer Early Detection Day." He will announce a mayoral proclamation at noon at the Georgia Mae Plaza, downtown Bonners Ferry. Everyone is encouraged to attend and wear their pink T-Shirt in solidarity of the fight against Breast Cancer in Boundary County. The entire ceremony will last only a few minutes. After the ceremony, order a free coffee, espresso, or hot chocolate at the restaurant of your choice. The event is free.
