ITD travel website contains helpful winter travel information;
it even has a Boundary County webcam
January 28, 2015
Got a winter driving trip coming up?

You may be glad to know that the Idaho Transportation Department maintains a website with some great information on highways and mountain passes throughout the state.

The ITD Travel Information website is available by going to  511.idaho.gov

This website contains updated information on road reports throughout the state. It also lists road / traffic cameras and weather stations that are scattered across Idaho. At the website, you can click on any of the camera locations to actually get a current, live webcam look at the road you plan to travel. See for yourself if there is snow or ice on the roadway. Clicking on any of the various weather stations will provide you with a weather report for that area.

Did you know there is a working ITD camera and weather station located in Boundary County? A traffic camera and weather station are located at what ITD calls "Five Mile Hill," which is located on Highway 95 about four miles north of the Mt. Hall junction. At the ITD Travel Information website, one can click on the "Five Mile Hill" camera to get an up-to-the-minute, live view of what is happening at that Boundary County location of Highway 95, or check the weather station at the same location.

This ITD website also includes information and / or cameras at all mountain passes throughout Idaho. Safety-minded travelers may wish to consult the webcam view and the weather report for any mountain passes they might have to cross in their travels.

This ITD website also lists information on weigh stations throughout the state, and various highway travel restrictions.

For those who prefer using the telephone, ITD travel information can be accessed by dialing 5-1-1.

Take a look at the ITD Travel Information website, and don't forget to peek at the webcam to see exactly what is going on at Five Mile Hill, 16 miles or so north of Bonners Ferry.
