Human remains found on downtown Kootenai River island
October 16, 2015
The Boundary County Sheriff's Office announced yesterday that "skeletal human remains" were discovered on a gravel island in the Kootenai River east of Bonners Ferry. The remains, a skeleton mostly intact, was discovered by workers clearing brush in the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Project, which is the river engineering work being done that is visible from the Kootenai Bridge.

The remains were removed in coordination with the Boundary County Coroner. An autopsy has been scheduled to learn more about these remains.

The Sheriff's Office has indicated that they have been in touch with the Lincoln County, Montana Sheriff's Office to determine if the remains might be related to any open missing persons cases from Montana.

We will continue to provide further information on this as it becomes available.
