BoCo Backpacks seeking help funding meals for
kids |

The BoCo Backpack weekend supplemental food
program is approaching the half way point for
the school year. Due to increased enrollment in
Boundary County Schools, the program is now
serving a total of 135 students at Naples, Mt.
Hall, Valley View and Headstart.
Boundary County four day school week means three
days when students who qualify for free and
reduced meal programs may have little or no
food. The weekend food kits, purchased from
Second Harvest, include nutritionally balanced
ready to eat portions of supplemental food. The
cost per student is $6 per week, for seven
pounds of food. The BoCo team reached the
funding goal of $25,000 for 120 students. With
the increased enrollment, there is a need for an
additional $3000 to continue serving students at
the current level for the remainder of the year.
The program is grateful this year for generous
support from Inland Northwest Community
Foundation Equinox Fund, the Idaho Community
Foundation, Church of the Nazarene, Fraternal
Order of the Eagles, Caring People for Animals,
and generous individual donors. All
transportation, storage, distribution, and
administration are donated by individuals,
businesses, and organizations.
BoCo Backpacks is a community wide volunteer
organization, sponsored by the Trinity Lutheran
Church 501(c)3. All donations are welcome and
