John Barry Harper Sr., 73, of Bonners Ferry, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Boundary Community Hospital. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Come celebrate the life of John Harper at the memorial service which will be held at the Mountain Springs Church located at 6789 South Main Street in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on Tuesday, October 13 at 12:00 p.m. Following the service there will be a potluck luncheon, please bring a dish to share, if possible.

John was born on October 15, 1941 in Birmingham, England to David Hayward Harper and Lillian Kathleen Mutter-Harper-Nixon-Wood. After John’s dad passed away his mom remarried and relocated with the boys to the United States.

On May 12, 1960 he married Sharon, the love of his life, and they honored From This Day Forward Til Death Do Us Part. Together they had four wonderful sons: John Barry Harper Jr., David Frank Harper, Keith Alan Harper, and Steven L. Harper.

He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 55 years and his brothers: David F. Harper (Pixley, California); Jeffrey Allan Nixon(Alberton, Montana); and Frank Lloyd Wood(Peetz, Colorado); his four sons and his 12 grandchildren: Christina, Alyssa, Tyler, Justin, Ashley, Darrin, James, Savanna, Sarah, Stephen, Steven, Julie and 8+ great grandchildren.

He was employed at Lockheed Martin Aircraft for over 33 years as a specialized Numerical Control machines mechanic (aircraft parts), later in his career he was a supervisor over several departments. He always said he worked with a great bunch of guys, especially Ed Tils and Richard Alexander.

John enjoyed being with his family outdoors: camping, fishing, and hunting. In John's spare time he refurbished classic cars, created leather tooled crafts for family and friends, tinkered with Morse code and shortwave radio. He enjoyed reading old classical stories to his family and loved Country Western dancing with his wife of 55 years. He was reserved with a dry sense of humor. He was kind, generous, and loving. He cared about anyone in need and he was also known by some as the gentleman of the family.

He will be missed by all who loved and knew him. Family and friends are invited to the celebration of his life on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. If possible please bring a dish to share. Please join in the celebration.
