November 1, 2016
Lucilia Rebello Emerson, age 93, passed away after a brief illness on October 29, 2016, in Bonners Ferry. A funeral mass is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home, 6485 Harrison Street, Bonners Ferry, followed by a graveside consecration.

Father Carlos Perez will officiate. Reception announcement to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lucy’s life.

Lucy is survived by her grandson, Sean Emerson of Vancouver, Washington, granddaughter Terzah Farley, San Antonio, Texas, daughter-in-law Norma Jean Emerson, Pampa, Texas, great-grandchildren Jasmine and Christopher Emerson and Elyana Farley. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert A. Emerson, of Bonners Ferry.

Lucy was born on January 10, 1923, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to parents Francisco Abalada and Ulidia Virginia Rebello, affectionately known as Paizinho and Mãezinha, from Portugal. She graduated from British American School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a Bilingual Secretarial Certificate in 1938.

She married Mariano Clemente Prado when she was 21, and was widowed in 1956 with no children. She met Al Emerson when he was supervising construction of a machine factory in Rio. They married on December 16, 1960, on a cruise ship between Rio and Miami. This marriage brought her two beloved stepsons, Leonard E. and Robert D. Emerson, who preceded her in death.

Al and Lucy built a house in Lafayette, Colorado, where Al ran a herd of Charolais cattle and managed operations for Gardner Denver headquarters. On retirement in 1974, Al and Lucy bought land in Bonners Ferry and moved here to be close to his oldest sister.

Lucy was an elegant lady whose door was always open for visitors to come for a cup of coffee and a chat. Al would do precision woodworking, and Lucy would decorate his work with tole painting. Many of their clocks, frames, tables and trivets are treasured mementos in the homes of friends and family.

She loved Al unconditionally and was his constant companion to the very end.

The family would like to thank Tom and Cathy Florea, her dearest friends of 42 years, for all their love and caring support, especially in her later years.
