Badger Track has a great meet at State, including State Champion in discus event
May 28, 2016
The Bonners Ferry Badgers Track Team was off to Middleton, Idaho, for the State Track Meet a week ago, on May 20-21. They returned with some notable achievements, several personal best marks, individual medals, and a State Champion.

Senior Jack Wade picked an excellent time to throw his new personal best in the discus. His throw stretched 146 feet and 3 inches, placing him first in the state in the 3A classification, the 2016 State Discus Champion.

Other Badgers boys who placed at State included Isaac Lavala, who tied for fifth place at State with his vault of 12 feet, Warren Carle who ran to an eighth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, and Nolan Stidham who was 15th overall in the 800 meter run.

The Badger Boys’ 1600 meter Medley Relay team ran to a sixth place finish at State. Runners on that Medley team were Nik Bertling, Isaac Lavala, Warren Carle, Nolan Stidham.

On the Girls’ side, Victoria Smith cleared nine feet in the pole vault to claim ninth place at State. Jerzie Pluid, only a freshman, jumped her personal best highest in the State Meet, four feet and ten inches, to finish in fifth place in the high jump. Natasha Webster finished tenth in the 400 meter dash. Sophomore Jordan Young finished in sixth place in the 800 meter run, and later that same day finished fifth in the 1600 meter run. Nicole Donn was twelth the 800 meters. In the throwing competitions, Haley Wenk finished eighth in State in discus, and twelth in the shot put.

In the way scoring works at the State competition, competitors finishing in the top eight places score points for their team, with the top six places earning State medals. Bonners Ferry qualified a team of 11 athletes for State competition, and that team returned home with a total of nine State medals, and one State Champion.

Overall, the Bonners Ferry Badgers Girls’ Track Team finished in 16th place at State, while the Boys’ team finished 13th.

Fellow Intermountain League member Kellogg finished in fifth place in team standings on the Girls’ side, with Timberlake finishing 11th. On the Boys’ side, Timberlake finished fourth at State, and Priest River finished 17th.

Below is a listing of all the top finishers for Intermountain League teams for each track and field event at the State Meet, along with their times and distances. The final team standings for the State Meet are also listed.

Also noted in this list are Intermountain League athletes who hold state records for various track and field events.

Congratulations Badger Track, for your great showing at State, and special congratulations to Jack Wade for his State Champion performance in discus!
