Badger sixth graders dig deep for win
October 17, 2016
Badger sixth-grader Josh Pinkerton looks for room to run Saturday as the Badgers pull out an amazing win at Timberlake.
The Badger sixth grade football team reached down deep Saturday and pulled out a come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter to beat Timberlake 26-18. The fifth grade team, hampered by few players who turned out this year, fought a good, hard fight, but fell 13-0.

"They showed much heart and determination yesterday and during the entire season," said coach Todd Carver after the upset. "They are a special group of kids."

According to Carver, the young Badgers stuck to their game plan of "power running" and it paid off. The offensive line, led by Donny Riess and Brayden Blackmore, opened up some huge holes, giving Josh Pinkerton and brothers Cleo and Charles Hensley rooms to make touchdown runs.

"We were down 18-7 at one point during the second half, made some adjustments on defense and the kids just didn't give up," Carver said.

David Hammonds, Noah Botcher and Dillon Mai all had big defensive games. Teigan Banning had his second interception in as many games.

"Their hard work really paid off," Carver said. "They showed a lot of heart and determination during this game and through the entire season."

The fifth grade Badgers played tough but lost to a good Timberlake team.

"Colin Fairchild had some nice runs on offense as well as Brody Rice," coach Gary Aitken Jr. said. "Rice also played a great defensive game."
